“There is something I know about you that you may not even know yourself. You have within you more resources of energy than have ever been tapped, more talent than has ever been exploited, more strength than has ever been tested and more to give than you have ever given.”
John Gardner – American novelist (1933- 1982)
When you read this, how do you feel? – thankful? hopeful? surprised? confused? suspicious?
When I first read this (on a WH Smith’s carrier bag) I felt mostly excited. For two reasons – because this is what I know to be true about myself and indeed this is what I believe to be true about every client I have ever worked with.
And, when I believe this, there are consequences – both for myself and for my clients. When I recognise this truth it is communicated in my questions, challenges and relationship with my clients –like holding up a mirror to show them the greatest reflection of who they are. And that feels good! Then it creates the opportunity for them to discover their own resources, talent, strength and offerings.
The question remains, is this merely a belief or is it true? Does it matter? I would suggest that believing this helps to make it true. When we believe something and act as if it were true, we manifest it in our lives. This, is turn, helps to strengthen the belief and so on… This can work for or against us, depending on what we believe to be true!
Have you ever firmly believed that something would work out /prove possible against the odds? What happened?
Have you ever firmly believed that a situation was hopeless / would be too difficult in some way and then found that to be true?
This is the extraordinary power of beliefs. So I believe it matters not whether something is true or not… only whether it is useful to believe.
What would be the most useful thing you could be believing right now? (about yourself, the world, your relationship(s) your work…)
Would you be willing to firmly believe it (and act as if it were true) over the next week and notice what happens?
Of course, I would love to hear the results!
If you, or someone you know, wish to explore your beliefs and how how useful they are, I can help – contact me now to find out more!
